Six seniors to be honored during pregame ceremonies
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 18, 2012) – The ETSU men’s soccer team will witness six seniors play their final regular season game at Summers-Taylor Stadium on Friday, as the Buccaneers play their first all-time game against Northern Kentucky on Senior Day at 7 p.m.
Franck Doumbe (Silver Spring, Md.), David Haba (Germantown, Tenn.), Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas), Colin Pugh (Dublin, Ireland), Matt Reed (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Theo Yang (Lilburn, Ga.) will be honored during pregame ceremonies as ETSU’s senior class. Among the six, Haba and Reed have spent five years at ETSU – four on the field and one redshirting – while Yang and Osorio have played four years, Pugh three years, and Doumbe two.
ETSU (7-5-2, 3-1-0 A-Sun) will look to extend its unbeaten streak to five games, and tie the program mark for most consecutive games without a loss. The Bucs began the streak on Oct. 5, defeating North Florida, 4-0. Since then, ETSU is 3-0-1, with the draw coming against nationally ranked Wake Forest.
Junior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) has been a big part of ETSU’s recent success. The Dobyns-Bennett product entered the week tied for ninth in the nation with 10 goals scored. Geno also ranks tied for sixth in points with 25, and has set the new ETSU single-season marks in each department.
Behind Geno in goals is redshirt junior Luis Calzadilla (Caracas, Venezuela), who has scored four goals to go along with two assists. Pugh, Geno and Preseason All-Atlantic Sun selection Blaike Woodruff (Georgetown, Texas) share the team-lead in assists at five apiece.
ETSU’s Last Outing
ETSU played just one game last weekend, handling Lipscomb, 3-0, in Nashville. Calzadilla put the Buccaneers on top very early, scoring just 24 seconds into the contest to register the fastest goal in program history. The one-goal lead held through halftime, until Geno sent in his 10th goal of the year to break his own single-season school record. Osorio finished the game off, driving in a hard shot with less than 15 minutes to play to give ETSU the three-goal victory.
Scouting the Norse
Northern Kentucky (5-7-1, 2-0-1 A-Sun) also enters Friday night on a four-game unbeaten streak. The Norse went 2-0 in league play last weekend with wins on the road against Jacksonville and North Florida. NKU’s two previous results were a win over IPFW and a draw against last year’s A-Sun Tournament champion Florida Gulf Coast.
NKU has scored 13 goals to average one per game, while giving up 19 for a GAA of 1.44. Leading the Norse attack is Kevin Walker with seven points off two goals and three assists. Nick Toney, Brendan Murphy, Mohammad Salhieh and Craig Heard also have two goals each. On the defensive side, NKU has split its goalkeeping among three different keepers, with A.J. Fleak earning the majority of minutes and coming in with nine starts.
