JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 16, 2010) - The ETSU men's soccer team underwent its first day of training Monday as head coach Scott Calabrese and staff welcomed the squad back to campus.
"We are very excited to get back to work in preparation for the 2010 season," Calabrese said. "The guys have had to wait a long time to get back in season, and have worked hard in the offseason so that the team can be successful this year. We had a great season in 2009, but this is a new year and the team is motivated and hungry to do even better than we did a year ago."
The Bucs welcomed 11 returners from the 2009 season including All-conference selections in Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.), Theo Yang (Lilburn, Ga.) and Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas). The team also welcomed ten newcomers to the squad, featuring a member of the Guatemalan U20 National Team in Mario Samperio (Guatemala City, Guatemala).
The men's team will play exhibitions at Wofford (Aug. 21) and home against Tusculum (Aug.27) before opening the regular season on the road at Furman on Sept. 1.
