Bucs look to stay undefeated at Radford

Thursday, September 10, 2009

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 10, 2009) - The ETSU men's soccer team is set to head to Radford for a non-conference match Friday at 7 p.m. at Cupp Stadium in Radford, Va.

The Bucs (1-0-1) are coming off of a 2-0 win over VMI last Friday. Sophomore Jaron Westbrook (Round Rock, Texas) scored the game-winner, heading a cross from Tony Nunes (Concord, N.C.) into the back of the net. Westbrook leads the team with three points with a goal and an assist on the season.

ETSU defeated the Highlanders in the only meeting between the two teams last season. The game went into overtime after a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation. Mohsen Pourmorteza (Johnson City, Tenn.) collected the rebound from a Tyler Hoek (Newburgh, Ind.) penalty kick early in the first overtime period and knocked it home for the win.

Radford (1-1-0) split a pair of matches last week defeating Appalachian State 3-2 on an own goal, but fell to Longwood 1-0 on an own goal. The Highlanders are led by James Jordan and Brian Gwanzura who have a goal apiece.
