Monday, April 23, 2012

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Apr. 23, 2012) – The ETSU men’s golf program signed Polish standout Adrian Meronk (Kryniczno, Poland) to a national letter of intent, head coach Fred Warren announced on Monday. Meronk will compete for the Bucs beginning in the fall of 2012.

Meronk was the No. 1-ranked player in 2011 according to the World Junior Golf Rankings.  Meronk finished second in the World Junior Golf Series season ending Gate American Junior in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. to lock up the No. 1 ranking.

He finished 11th at the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship in Coral Gables, Fla. after leading through three rounds. The 48th edition of the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship featured a 103-player field from 35 countries.

In addition to his success in the states, Meronk has been stellar at home. In 2011, he won the Polish Junior Championship and finished runner-up at the Polish Amateur Championship.

Meanwhile, Meronk finished fourth at the 2011 KeNako South African World Championship and reached the fifth round at the 2011 British Boys Amateur Championship to eventually tie for ninth.

Just this past weekend, Meronk finished 18th at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in Augusta, Ga. The Junior Invitational at Sage Valley is rated the top junior golf tournament in the world by GolfWeek.

Meronk joins previous signees Christopher Hickman (Centreville, Md.) and Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) to the Buccaneer squad for the 2012-13 season.
