RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (Feb. 21, 2012) – Freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) earned the top finish of his young career as he led the ETSU men’s golf team at the Puerto Rico Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at the Rio Mar Country Club.

Gibson, who started the day as the top ETSU individual on the leaderboard, put together another solid effort in Tuesday’s final round as he recorded a 1-under-par 71 to finish tied for 19th at even-par (70-75-71—216). Gibson had four birdies and three bogeys in the final round.

No. 8 Alabama earned the wire-to-wire victory to shoot an incredible 30-under for the event – besting second place and No. 13 Clemson by 18 shots. No. 48 Purdue came in third at 8-under, while No. 5 Georgia Tech (-3) and N.C. State (-1) rounded out the top-five.

ETSU just could not put together a collective team performance as the Bucs finished the event in 15th place (306-316-302—924).
