Sunday, October 23, 2011

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Oct. 23, 2011) – Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) fired an opening round 1-under-par 71 to lead the ETSU men’s golf team on day one of the U.S. Collegiate Championship, Sunday afternoon.

Enoch had a steady round of golf that included three birdies and just two bogeys. He shot a 1-under 35 on the front nine and followed that up with a solid even-par 36 on the back nine. Enoch is currently tied for 13th place in the 75-player field.

The tournament, which is being held at The Golf Club of Georgia - Lakeside Course, is playing as a 7,017-yard, par 72 layout for the tournament. The course was designed by Arthur Hills in 1990 and is fashioned around Lake Windward.

Sophomore Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) followed Enoch with a 2-over 74 on Sunday. Lawson was in good position at even-par thru 16-holes, but a double-bogey at the 17th dropped him to 2-over. Lawson is currently tied for 37th position.

Steve Lim of USC has the individual lead after an impressive round of 6-under  66 to take a two-shot advantage. Dominic Bozzelli of Auburn and Julian Suri of Duke are just one shot back at 5-under.

The Bucs are in 14th position on the team leaderboard after compiling a 304 (+16) in the opening round. USC and Auburn share the lead at 6-under (282). Duke sits one shot back at 5-under, while Georgia Tech (4-under) and Florida State (2-under) remain well within striking distance after day one.

Freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) shot a 79 on Sunday and is tied for 70th, while Sam Edwards (Bigbury, England) and Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) finished just one shot behind Gibson.
