Enoch enjoys solid round after tough start at NCAAs
Tuesday, June 01, 2010
OOLTEWAH (June 1, 2010) - Overcoming an up-and-down front nine, ETSU junior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) posted three birdies on his final nine holes to finish at even par 72 after one round in the NCAA Championships Tuesday at The Honors Course.
The 52nd-ranked player in the country, Enoch finished the day tied for 36th and is just four strokes back of the lead, which is shared by Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard and Augusta State's Henrik Norlander at 4-under-par 68.
"It was a bit of a struggle out there today to be honest," said Enoch, who was happy to still be well in contention. "I'm very happy to have managed it and plugged along. After my first few shots I thought I was out of it, and I didn't play well on the front, but I was able to find something on the back. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Starting the day on the 10th hole, Enoch bogeyed his first hole but rallied for a pair of birdies over the next four. However, another bogey and a double bogey followed, leaving him at 2-over 38 on his front nine. The back was a different story though, as three birdies and a bogey left him at 2-under 34, and at even-par 72 for the day.
Second round action is planned for Wednesday, and live scoring is available at Golfstat.com. ETSUBucs.com will provide a wrap up as well at the conclusion of each day's play.
