ROCKY FACE, Ga. (Sept. 16, 2007) - Senior Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) and freshman Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) both started the 2007 season off on a solid note, as each golfer placed in the top-10 after the final round at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Sunday afternoon. The 14th ranked Buccaneers finished 11th overall for the tournament.

"I am very proud of our how guys posted a strong finish, and moved up a couple spots on the final day," said head ETSU men's golf coach Fred Warren. "We were able to take away some positives in our first tournament, and hopefully we can also learn from some of the mistakes we made as well."

Enoch, competing in his first collegiate tournament, fired a 3-under 69 during Sunday's final round, and finished fifth for the entire tournament. The freshman enjoyed a stellar weekend, carding a 2-under 214 during the three-day play, and finished six strokes behind tournament champion, Chesson Hadley from Georgia Tech.

"Rhys had an impressive weekend and played well in his first collegiate tournament," commented Warren. "I am pleased with how he played all weekend."

Shaw entered the final round tied for 18th overall, and climbed 12 spots after he also recorded a 3-under 69, finishing tied for sixth for the weekend. The All-American candidate posted four birdies during the final round, and led the Bucs with 11 for the tournament.

As a team the Bucs finished strong, firing a 1-over 289 on Sunday, but finished 24-over par with a total team score of 888 for the weekend. The University of Alabama won the event for the second straight year, as the Crimson Tide beat out South Carolina in a playoff. Alabama finished at 5-over 869.

The ETSU men's golf team will now enjoy a long break before competing in its next tournament. The Bucs will not be in competition again until Oct. 8, when they head to Birmingham, Ala. for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
