JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 2, 2006) - The first polls and rankings of the 2006-07 season are starting to be released, and once again this year, the ETSU men's golf team is at the top of the national lists.
Picking up where they left off a year ago with a trip to the NCAA Championships and Top 20 rankings throughout the season, the Buccaneers are currently ranked 10th in the Golfweek/Sagarin computer rankings and are picked 20th in the most recent GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll. Individually, ETSU senior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) is currently ranked 19th by Golfweek/Sagarin, while junior Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) is ranked 22nd in the same listing.
The Bucs have played in only one event so far this season, finishing eighth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga. The team will be in action once again Oct. 9-11 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala., and will then return home to close out their fall slate by hosting the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at the Ridges Oct. 14-15.
