JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 4, 2007) -- Former ETSU standout Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) wasted little time continuing his golf career after finishing his collegiate playing days last week at the NCAA Championships.

Three days after wrapping up his time as a Buccaneer, Davies won Monday's U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Rockville, Md. , posting rounds of 72 and 65 at Woodmont Country Club.

"It still hasn't sunk in properly," said Davies, who will tee up as an amateur in the U.S. Open, June 14-17 at Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh. "Obviously, I am thrilled to have this opportunity."

A field of 65 golfers, including a handful of tour pros, began Monday's sectional qualifier competing for five spots. Among the golfers Davies beat were Joey Sindelar, Fred Funk, Brad Faxon, Shigeki Maruyama, Carlos Franco and Jim Estes.
