Davies currently 10th, ETSU men battling tough field at U.S. Collegiate

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (April 10, 2006) - Junior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) spent the early part of Monday's first round leading at the United States Collegiate Championship, but after posting a 4-under 68 to ultimately finish tied for third, the nation's fifth-ranked player battled to a 3-over 75 in the second round and is currently 10th entering Tuesday's final round at the Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside Course.

 

Davies currently stands at 1-under, eight strokes back of leader Webb Simpson of Wake Forest, who posted rounds of 68 and 67 Monday. On the team leaderboard, Clemson holds a five-stroke advantage over Florida, and the 10th-ranked Bucs are currently 10th at 599 (294-305).

 

While Davies was the top ETSU finisher on day one, sophomore Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) ended the day tied for 37th at 7-over, while freshman Adam Hodkinson (Dore, England) is tied for 47th at 9-over. Other ETSU results included sophomore Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) who is tied at 52nd, while freshman Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) is 55th.

 

The Bucs will continue with third and final round play in the U.S. Collegiate Championship on Tuesday, and fans can follow the event by clicking on Golfstat.com and checking out the tournament's live scoring.
