CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Oct. 9, 2004) - Thanks to a second-straight, sub-70 round, East Tennessee State sophomore Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) holds a one-stroke lead on the individual leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round play in the Franklin Street Partners Invitational at the par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course.

Davies - who is trying to become the first ETSU men's golfer to capture an individual championship since Chris Wisler won the 2000 BellSouth Intercollegiate - posted a 3-under 69 during the second round on Saturday and currently stands at 8-under-par 136 for the event. He leads Charlotte's Ray Sheedy by one stroke, while North Carolina's Jonathan Jackson and Georgia Southern's David Palm are tied for third at 5-under.

As a team, the Bucs are currently sixth, 20-strokes back of front-running host North Carolina. The Tar Heels are currently at 13-under-par and lead Georgia Southern by 12 strokes.

Along with Davies, the Bucs are being led by sophomore Stephen Arnold (Langhorne, Pa.), who is currently tied for 22nd at 2-over-par. Other ETSU results include freshman Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland), who finished tied for 28th, senior Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales), who tied for 33rd, and freshman Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), who is currently 42nd.

Third and final round play will begin Sunday morning.
