Davies fires career-best round to lead ETSU men's golf team

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (October 20, 2003) - East Tennessee State freshman Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) shot a career-best, 3-under-par 69 and tied for 23rd (76-69=145 +1) following second-round play Monday in the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions at the Holston Hills Country Club.

Davies' efforts powered ETSU, which had a team score of 12-over-par and has garnered a 12th-place standing heading into Tuesday's final round. Currently, the Swedish National team leads the event at 13-under, while Georgia Southern is the top collegiate team at 10-under.

Individually, Jonas Blixt of the Swedish National team tops the leaderboard at 11-under (68-65=133), while Georgia Southern's Aron Price is second at 9-under (69-66=135).

As for the rest of the Bucs, junior Chase Baldwin (Plant City, Fla.) is currently tied for 30th at 2-over, sophomore Noel Kavanagh (Westport, Ireland) is tied for 38th at 3-over, junior Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) is tied for 54th at 6-over, and junior Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) suffered through a tough day finishing 70th at 11-over.

Final round play will conclude Tuesday.
