Davies makes strong debut at Puerto Rico Classic; finishes tied for seventh
Wednesday, February 25, 2004RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico (Feb. 25, 2004) - Playing in his first spring season collegiate match, East Tennessee State freshman Rhys Davies(Bridgend, Wales) fired an even-par 72 to finish tied for seventh during final round play of the Puerto Rico Classic Tuesday at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course. Davies (73-68-72=213 -3) helped power the Buccaneers to an 11th-place tie in the 18-team field.
On the team leaderboard, Florida (289-277-289=855 -9) finished on top by one stroke over Clemson (281-289-286=856 -8). Individually, Clemson's Matt Hendrix (70-76-70 -9) brought home top honors by one stroke over Oklahoma State's Anthony Kim (69-71-68 208 -9).
In addition to Davies, the Bucs were led by sophomore and Johnson City native Andrew Paduch (76-73-69=218 +2), who finished tied for 19th. Meanwhile, junior Cennydd Mills (77-73-75=225 +9) placed tied for 54th, while freshman Stephen Arnold (78-76-78=232 +16) and sophomore Noel Kavanagh (80-75-77=232 +16) both tied for 70th.
