ETSU men's golf tied for third at Tulane Invitational
Monday, February 10, 2003 NEW ORLEANS, La. (Feb. 10, 2003) - East Tennessee State senior James Johnson (Barbados) shot even-par (70-74=144) to tie for second place after two rounds of the Tulane Invitational Monday at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans, La. Johnson was joined at the top of the leaderboard by fellow Buccaneer Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.), who carded rounds of 75 and 73 to tie for 8th with a four-over score of 148. The efforts of Johnson and Hobson helped put East Tennessee State's men's golf team in a tie for third place with a team score of 301-297=598. The Bucs are tied with Southern Mississippi and trail second-place Wake Forest (292-293=585) and first-place Southern Methodist (292-292=584). Wake Forest's Bill Haas, son of PGA Tour player Jay Haas, leads the event after carding a pair of sub-par scores in the first two rounds -- 69-68=137. Johnson and Tennessee's Ian Parnaby trail Haas by seven strokes. Other Buccaneer scores included freshman Derek McNamara (Galway, Ireland) with rounds of 76 and 75 to tie for 20th at 151, while sophomore Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) is tied for 30th at 80-75=155, and sophomore Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) carded 81-79=160 to finish tied for 41st. The Tulane Invitational will wrap up with final round play Tuesday.
