Men's Golf Moves Up to Sixth After Second Round of Puerto Rico Classic

Johnson City, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2002) -- The East Tennessee State men's golf team improved their first round score by seven strokes, moving up to sixth on the leaderboard after the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic from the Rio Del Mar Country Club River Course in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The tournament is led by Georgia Tech, who shot their second-straight 275 and lead second-place Clemson by 18 strokes. The Bucs are 33 strokes back, after shooting a second-round 288, following a 295 on day one. Senior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) continues to lead the Bucs after two rounds of play. Riddering is tied for 11th at 2-under par (72-70=144), 10 strokes behind individual leader Troy Matteson of Georgia Tech. Senior James Johnson (Barbados) is in a four-way tie for 17th at even-par after firing 2-under-par 70. He significantly improved his standing, as he was in a tie for 31st before today's round. Freshman Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) is in a tie for 42nd (74-75=149) after shooting a 3-over-par 75 in today's second round. Fellow freshman Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales) finds himself in a tie for 54th (78-73=151) after shooting a 1-over-par 73 on day two. Freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.) is in a tie for 71st (75-83=158) after carding an 11-over-par 83 on the second day of play. The Bucs return to action tomorrow morning for the third and final round of the Puerto Rico Classic from the Rio Del Mar Country Club River Course in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
