Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Golf Tournament Entertains Nation's Best Teams

Johnson City, Tenn. -- The third annual Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Golf Tournament will feature many of the nation's finest teams and top individual golfers. Of the 14 teams competing this year, 11 played in last season's NCAA Championship.

Joining the host school, East Tennessee State which finished tied for 17th at the 2000 NCAA Championships, are Houston (4th at NCAA Championships), Clemson (7th), Northwestern (8th), North Carolina (10th), Texas Christian (11th), Auburn (14th), Wake Forest (15th), Oklahoma (T-23rd), Virginia (T-25th) and North Florida (27th). Also joining the field are South Carolina (final ranking of #16), Tennessee (#45) and Southern Methodist (#54). Oklahoma (1999) and Clemson (1998) are the defending Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate team champions.

Along with the top teams come the nation's elite collegiate golfers. Houston's Andy Sanders finished tied for seventh in last year's NCAA Championship and will be one of the top ranked individuals this season. Northwestern's Luke Donald (T-7th), the 1999 NCAA Champion and collegiate Player of the Year, advanced to the semifinals of the 100th U.S. Amateur Golf Championship last weekend.

Other top players include Clemson's D.J. Trahan and Lucas Glover. Trahan was the 2000 USGA Public Link Champion while Glover was runner up at the 1998 Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate and earned First Team All-America honors last year. South Carolina's Kyle Thompson finished tied for fifth at last year's Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate and tied for 10th at the 2000 NCAA Championships.

East Tennessee State is led by senior Chris Wisler who finished tied for third at last year's Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Tournament. The 2000 Southern Conference Player of the Year finished tied for 17th at the 2000 NCAA Championships.

The event begins on September 8 with the practice round. The first and second rounds will be played on Saturday, September 9, while the final round will be played on Sunday, September 10.
