Wednesday, May 02, 2001

Johnson City, Tenn. -- East Tennessee State senior men's golfer Chris Wisler was selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America to represent the United States in the 2001 Palmer Cup presented by CSFBdirect.

The Palmer Cup, named after legendary professional Arnold Palmer, is an international golf event that annually pits the top collegiate golfers from the United States against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland.

The eight-player teams will compete in a Ryder Cup-style event June 27-28 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.

Joining Wisler on the U.S. team are Nick Cassini and Erik Compton of Georgia, John Engler and Lucas Glover of Clemson, Scott Lander of UNLV, and Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech. The eighth member will be named later this month.

Wisler, also a participant in the 2000 Palmer Cup, is ranked eighth in the nation in the latest MasterCard collegiate golf rankings. He leads the 14th ranked Buccaneer men's golfers with a 71.3 stroke average and has finished in the top-5 in each of his last three tournaments.

The Buccaneers return to action on May 13-14 at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. The tournament will be a tune-up for the NCAA Regionals that get underway on the following Tuesday.
