JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (August 30, 2010) - Former ETSU All-American Rhys Davies will have an unofficial role alongside European captain Colin Montgomerie at the Ryder Cup in Newport's Celtic Manor in October.
"I think it was important the Welsh had some representation out on that course during the week," Montgomerie told the BBC. "He will be my personal buggy driver.
"Rhys is a Ryder Cup player of the future - the very near future. He is the guy with the $1m putting stroke."
Europe did the same at Valhalla two years ago with German ace Martin Kaymer, who has since gone on to win the PGA Championship and will be a key member of Monty's team to face the USA on the first weekend in October.
Wales' leading golfer Davies had hoped to make the team after a superb start to his first full season on the Tour but he could not quite qualify.
Davies currently ranks 12th in the European Tour rankings and is the No. 52 ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings. He just recently finished tied for 14th at the Johnnie Walker Championship.
