Men's Golfers In Tie For 16th After First Round of Duke Golf Classic

Johnson City, Tenn. -- Rain halted play during the second round of the Duke Golf Classic from Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C. Prior to the rain, the East Tennessee State men's golfers were in a tie for 16th after shooting a first-round 313. The Bucs are tied with Virginia Commonwealth University and are 20 shots behind first-round leaders, Virginia Tech. Leading the Bucs on Sunday was junior James Johnson (Barbados), who shot a 1-over par 73 to find himself in a tie for ninth, just four shots off of the lead. Fellow junior Adam Riddering (Maple Grove, Minn.) and freshman Cennydd Mills (Wales) were the next ETSU finishers, tying for 46th after shooting matching 6-over par 78's in the first round of play. Freshman Jeremy Hobson (Thonotosassa, Fla.), playing as an individual, finished three shots behind Riddering and Mills in a tie for 76th at 9-over par. Freshmen Marco Trejos (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Noel Kavanaugh (Ireland) were the final Buccaneer finishers, tying for 90th after shooting 12-over par 84's in the first round of play. The second round will be completed Monday morning, followed by the tournament's third and final round from the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
