Cross Country Gears Up for Mountaineer Open

BOONE, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2011) – After running its season opener two weeks ago, the ETSU cross country teams return to action as the Bucs gear up for the Mountaineer Open on Friday evening in Boone, N.C.

The women will run a 5K starting at 5 p.m., while the men follow with a 6400m course at 5:45 p.m. from the ASU State Farm Fields.

The Bucs opened the season in Boone back on Sept. 2 with the men’s team finishing sixth (11 teams) at the Covered Bridge Open. Sophomore Anders Ludvigsen (Odense, Denmark) led the way for the Blue and Gold in his first collegiate race at ETSU, placing 18th overall with a time of 26:24.1 in the 8K run.

Meanwhile, the women’s team placed 10th in team scoring as sophomore Chelsea Clark (Fairmont, W. Va.) paced the Bucs with a time of 19:58.4 on the 5K course.

Teams expected to be running in Boone on Friday include No. 26 Ohio State, Western Carolina, UNC Asheville, Queens (N.C.), Northern Kentucky, and host Appalachian State.
