ETSU cross country concludes season at NCAA South Regional

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2007) - The ETSU cross country program concluded its 2007 campaign, as three Buccaneer runners and one Lady Buccaneer runner competed at the NCAA South Regional from the University of Florida Golf Course in Gainesville Saturday morning.

 

Sophomore Kenneth Rotich (Nairobi, Kenya) wrapped up a stellar season, finishing the 10K race in 45th respectively. Rotich, who won two individual titles and three Atlantic Sun Runner of the Week awards in 2007, completed the course in 32:25, averaging a 5:13 mile during the event.

 

Joining Rotich on the men's side was senior Jordan Ladd (Lyn, Ontario) and junior Jeff Crane (Taylors, S.C.). Ladd finished his final collegiate cross country race right behind Rotich, placing 47th overall with a mark of 32:31. Crane rounded out the Buccaneer attack, concluding the event in the 58th slot. The Taylors, S.C. native averaged a five minute eighteen second mile and finished with a time of 33:00.

 

Alabama (28 points) and Florida State (52 points) earned the automatic bid to the NCAA cross country nationals, as the Crimson Tide won the regional and the Seminoles finished second. Host Florida finished third, ending the day with 82 total points. Auburn's Felix Kibioywo also earned a spot to the nationals, as he won the overall race in a time of 30:05.

 

On the women's side, sophomore Vicki Currie (Dumfries, Scotland) was the lone Lady Buccaneer runner to make the trip to Gainesville. The Scottish sensation finished the 6K race in 97th. Currie averaged a 6:29 mile, and finished the course in 24:12.

 

Florida State swept both the team and individual titles, as Susan Kuijken led the Seminoles across the finish line. Georgia earned the second automatic bid to the nationals, ending the morning with 75 points which was 35 more than FSU.
