JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 16, 2013) – Junior guards Jalen Riley (Racine, Wisc.) and Rashawn Rembert (Tampa) posted career highs and combined to score 54 points, as the ETSU men’s basketball team outpaced Tusculum 108-87 in a non-conference game highlighted by plenty of offense Monday evening inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

Riley finished with a game-high 28 points and Rembert added 26, as the Buccaneers shot 54 percent from the field as a team and improved to 5-6 on the year. Meanwhile, Tusculum dropped to 1-11 on the season.

“We’ve now won five of our last seven and we’re getting better,” said ETSU head coach Murry Bartow. “I saw a lot of good things tonight offensively, especially with a few guys that we normally count on to score not really getting it going. We also didn’t have Hunter (Harris) due to a family situation, but other guys stepped in and played well.”

ETSU also shot 41 percent from 3-point range and 87 percent from the foul line, out-rebounding the Pioneers 41-30 and outscoring Tusculum 42-28 in the paint. The Bucs also enjoyed a 51-31 advantage in points off the bench.

Along with Riley and Rembert’s efforts, the Bucs got 13 points and nine rebounds from sophomore forward Lester Wilson (Knoxville), while true freshman post Isaac Banks (New Orleans) came off the bench to pitch in 12 points and nine rebounds.

Tusculum actually trailed by just two in the early going before Banks scored six straight points to make it 24-16 with 10 minutes left in the first half. From there, ETSU would outscore the Pioneers 25-19 to close out the half with a 49-35 advantage.

In the second half, the Bucs methodically built their lead to as many as 29 points at 98-69 with 6:37 left in the game. At that point, the Pioneers managed to cut into the advantage and finish 21 points off the pace.

For Tusculum, Addison Flynn scored a team-high 20 points, while Chase Mounce netted 18, Darius Carter added 13, and Jalen Walker collected 10.

The Bucs will return to action on Saturday afternoon, taking on Austin Peay inside the Dome. Tip for that contest is set for 4 p.m.
