JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 22, 2010) - ETSU men's basketball head coach Murry Bartow officially announced Thursday that the Buccaneers have received a signed national letter of intent from point guard Ryan Woumn (Lynn, Mass.).

The 2010 McDonald's All-American nominee was a 1,000-point scorer during his prep career, averaging 26 points, six assists and five rebounds as a senior for Lynn English High School. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard helped lead his team to a 23-2 record last season.

"We are really happy to have Ryan joining our program," Bartow said. "He is a great point guard with the ability to make those around him better. His knowledge of the game and leadership are things that we really liked about him. He's from a highly successful high school program and strong AAU team. He's a great kid with a strong family, and we think he's going to make a fantastic addition to our team."

A North Eastern Conference All-Star and a Boston Herald Dream Team selection the past two seasons, Woumn was also named the North Eastern Conference's most valuable player as a junior. Other accolades for Woumn include being named the Lynn English Student Athletic Award recipient, and selection to the All Boston FOX Channel Top 25 Boys Team.

Woumn said ETSU was the perfect fit for his college career.

"When I stepped onto campus everything just clicked," said Woumn, who plans to major in criminal justice. "Everything was beautiful. I thought everyone was very friendly to me. That is new for me. ETSU has everything that I am looking for and I believe I can get a good education there."
