“Friday Night Lights” football camp a huge success

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 10, 2014) – Last week, the ETSU football program held its first-ever “Friday Night Lights” football camp for high school players who are entering the 9th through 12th grades, and the event was an overwhelming success.

ETSU football head coach Carl Torbush said he was pleasantly surprised when 156 players representing six different states made the trip to Johnson City to attend the three-hour camp inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center and outside on the campus’ intramural fields.

“It was a great night and our entire coaching staff, the parents, and all the players left here very excited about the future of ETSU football and ETSU athletics,” Torbush said. “We had a lot of positive comments about our campus, the friendliness of the people here at ETSU, and the overall direction of our program. The 156 players who were here were able to learn skills drills and techniques that will help them in their football future.”

The Friday Night Lights camp was the first of many special events planned by the football program this summer. On July 19th, Torbush said the program will again host a football coaching clinic, while another camp for children entering the 4th through 8th grades will be held July 26th. In addition, the program’s annual Women’s Clinic will be hosted on Sept. 13th. More information on these camps will be released at a later date.
