Buccaneer slugger picks up second weekly award this season

MACON, Ga. (May 19, 2014) – ETSU senior slugger Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) received the final Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award of the year as the league office announced its weekly honors on Monday.

For the week, Freeman hit .643 (9-14) with one double, three home runs, four walks, eight runs, and four RBI, while also registering a .772 on-base and 1.357 slugging percentage. Furthermore, the two-way player also picked up a save in Friday’s 7-6 win over Mercer, marking the 21st of his career.

Freeman homered in three of the four games last week for the Blue and Gold, beginning with a two-run blast Tuesday night against Appalachian State. From there, the ETSU two-way star finished the regular season by registering three multi-hit games in the series win over Mercer. The Jonesborough, Tenn. native began the weekend going 3-for-4 with one double, one home run, and scored three runs in ETSU’s 7-2 victory on Thursday, while reaching base safely in all five plate appearances in Friday’s win. Freeman went 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs, while pitching the final three innings for his 11th save of the season, which tied him with Caleb Moore (2005) for second-place on ETSU's single-season saves list. On Saturday, Freeman finished the weekend going 2-for-4 with a home run in his final game played in Thomas Stadium.

Freeman, who leads the A-Sun with 13 home runs, received his second conference Player of the Week honor this season and the third of his career.

Freeman and the Bucs open the A-Sun Championship on Wednesday morning when No. 6 seed ETSU faces third-seeded Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. from FGCU’s Swanson Stadium.
