Freeman receives Louisville Slugger First Team All-America honor

Monday, December 23, 2013

TUCSON, Ariz. (Dec. 23, 2013) – The preseason honors keep rolling in for ETSU senior Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.).

After landing third team preseason All-America honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) last week, the Buccaneer two-way player received first team Louisville Slugger All-America accolades by Collegiate Baseball on Monday afternoon.

Freeman helped guide the Blue and Gold to a 36-win campaign and their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 32 years after the Bucs won the 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship last May in DeLand, Fla. The Jonesborough, Tenn. native led ETSU in nearly every offensive category en route to being named second team All A-Sun and CollegeBaseballInsider.com/Louisville Slugger All-America.

Freeman paced the Blue and Gold in batting average (.335), hits (80), doubles (18), triples (4), home runs (10), RBI (57), and slugging percentage (.569). On the mound, the left-hander went 7-1 with a 3.04 ERA (19 ER/56.1 IP) and eight saves in 25 appearances (three starts). In Freeman’s 22 relief appearances, the southpaw went 6-0 with a 0.65 ERA (3 ER/41.1 IP) and converted on all eight of his save opportunities.

Those numbers also placed Freeman among the conference leaders as the Buccaneer standout ranked second in slugging percentage, tied for second in home runs, ranked third in RBI, tied for third in triples, tied for fourth in doubles, tied for sixth in hits, and ranked ninth in batting average. Meanwhile, Freeman’s eight saves were the second-most by an A-Sun closer, while he tied for league lead in games finished at 21.

ETSU opens the 2014 campaign on Feb. 14 when the Bucs host Longwood. To purchase season tickets for the upcoming season, call the ETSU ticket office at (423) 439-3878 or visit ETSUBucs.com/tickets.
