JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 6, 2012) – Jacksonville broke a 3-3 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning and the Dolphins held on to defeat ETSU, 6-3, Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Sessions Stadium.

Jacksonville clinched the series after also winning Friday’s series opener. The Dolphins improve to 16-33 overall and 6-15 in A-Sun play, while ETSU falls to 21-26 and 7-14 in league play.

The Dolphins were led by Dan Gulbransen, Ethan Loosen and Matt Frank as each went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Bucs were led by freshmen Chris Riopedre (Miami, Fla.) and Jordan Sanford (Powell, Tenn.) with two hits apiece. Catcher Zach Waters (Woodstock, Ga.) had a hit and a pair of RBIs, while Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) recorded the only other RBI of the day for the Bucs.

JU starting pitcher Alex McRae (4-6) earned the victory after allowing four hits and three runs in six innings of work. Sean Green picked up his second save of the season after tossing three scoreless innings of relief. ETSU starter Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) (4-4) was charged with the loss after giving up 10 hits and six runs (four earned) in seven innings. Doane walked just one and struck out seven JU batters.

ETSU struck first in the top of the second inning thanks to a two-run single by Waters gave the Bucs a 2-0 lead. Riopedre got a two-out rally started with a double to deep right center field. Cory Betterson (Atlanta, Ga.) and Sanford followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Waters stepped to the plate and laced the 1-1 pitch down the left field line for a two-run double – giving the Bucs an early 2-0 lead.

Jacksonville took the lead in the third after plating three runs on three hits in the inning. Frank led off the frame with a double to left center. Then, Chris Moye attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt, which Doane fielded in plenty of time to get the runner heading to third, but the throw was errant. Frank was awarded the plate after obstruction was called. The Dolphins added two more runs in the inning. Jonathan Murphy scored on a wild pitch and Dan Gulbransen added an RBI single.

The Bucs tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Green. Sanford started the inning with a double off the left field wall and advanced to third on a fly out by Waters. Green followed with a sacrifice fly to deep left field to knot the game 3-3.

The Dolphins regained the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. Gulbransen got the inning started with a double to right center. After a sacrifice bunt by Chris Anderson advanced Gulbransen to third, Loosen recorded an RBI single through the left side. Frank followed with a RBI single of his own to give the Dolphins a 5-3 lead.

JU tacked on another run in the seventh thanks to a leadoff home run by Adam Brett Walker – his ninth homer of the season.

The Bucs return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference matchup at Radford. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
