Owls drop Bucs in series opener 8-4

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 21, 2011) - A four-run fourth inning for Kennesaw State was the difference as the ETSU baseball team dropped its fifth straight contest Thursday night suffering an 8-4 loss to the Owls at Cardinal Park in game one of the series.
 
Aaron Dobbs led the way for KSU (23-18, 10-8 A-Sun) as the Owls outhit the Buccaneers (22-14, 11-9 A-Sun) 14-11. Dobbs was a perfect 4-for-4 in the contest and only needed a home run to complete the cycle.
 
John Long (Anderson, S.C.) fell to 3-5 on the year after giving up six runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings with a walk and three strikeouts.
 
Kennesaw State's Zac Griffith earned his Atlantic Sun leading seventh win going 7.1 innings limiting ETSU to four runs scattering 10 hits with a season-high seven strikeouts.
 
Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) both had multiple hits on the night for the Bucs as Reeder was 3-for-5 with a double, while Doane was 2-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBI.
 
The Owls got things going in the top of the first as Ronnie Freeman drove in Dobbs on a sacrifice fly to center to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Freeman put KSU up 2-0 in the third after doubling in Dobbs from first for his second RBI of the contest.
 
Junior Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) evened the game at 2-all in the bottom half of the frame as he crushed a two-run homer to straight away center. Later in the inning, Doane sent a two-run home run of his own to left center to give ETSU a 4-2 advantage.
 
Kennesaw State answered in the top of the fourth as the Owls scored four runs on a three-run homer by Jordan Craft and a RBI double by Dobbs to regain the lead 6-4.
 
In the top of the seventh, Sean McClurken doubled in a run to increase the KSU lead to 7-4.
 
The Owls pushed their advantage to 8-4 in the top of the ninth on a two-out RBI single up the middle by Ethan Herron.
