NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 16, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team dropped the first game of the doubleheader 11-1 to Belmont in seven innings on an overcast Saturday afternoon at Shelby Park in Nashville, Tenn.

The Bucs (22-10, 11-6 A-Sun) were outhit 12-6 in the contest by the Bruins (18-17, 7-9 A-Sun). Junior John Long (Anderson, S.C.) was tabbed with his fourth loss of the year after giving up seven runs (four earned) in 5.2 innings of work with five strikeouts.

Chase Brookshire went 6.0 strong innings for Belmont as he improved to 3-2. Brookshire limited ETSU to one run on five hits with six strikeouts and four walks.

The Bruins jumped out in front 4-0 in the bottom of the first scoring four runs on an RBI single by Judah Akers and a three-run homer by Tim Egerton.

ETSU cut the Belmont lead to 4-1 in the top half of the second. After Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) both reached to start the inning, sophomore Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) brought Pratt home on a sacrifice fly to right.

The Bucs threatened in the top of the sixth as both Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Pratt got on base to lead off the inning. In the next at-bat Doane roped a ball to left, but Belmont's Derek Hamblen would make a great catch against the wall to rob Doane of extra bases. Brookshire then retired the next two batters to end the threat.

In the bottom half of the frame, with two outs Nate Woods increased the Bruins advantage to 7-1 as he crushed a three-run homer to left.

Belmont ended the game in the bottom of the seventh as the Bruins plated four runs on two hits and two Buccaneers highlighted by a two-run triple by Hamblen.
