JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 8, 2011) - Junior John Long (Anderson, S.C.) was phenomenal on the mound for the ETSU baseball team as he stymied the Lipscomb offense in a 2-1 win Friday night at Cardinal Park in game one of the series.

Long improved to 3-3 on the season for the Bucs (18-9. 9-5 A-Sun) as he limited the Bisons (11-19, 3-7 A-Sun) to one run on five hits in 8.0 innings with two strikeouts and three walks.

Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) picked up his 11th save of the season in the game tying the ETSU single season record set by Caleb Moore in 2005. Reeder was also one of three Buccaneers to have multiple hits on the night leading the way with a home run and two RBI.

Blake Fonfara was tabbed with the loss after giving up two runs on six hits in 5.0 innings of work with four strikeouts and three walks, while Logan Hostettler was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk.

The Bisons got things going in the top of the first as M.L. Williams came in to score from second on a single by T.J. Hoelzer that caromed off of the foot of Long into left field to make the score 1-0.

In the bottom half of the frame, Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) led off the inning with a single up the middle. Reeder then hammered the 1-0 pitch over the right field fence in the next at-bat to give the Bucs a 2-1 advantage. Later in the inning, Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) looked to score from second on a Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) singled to right, but a strong throw from Lee Wilson would beat Pratt to the plate as he would be tagged out by Hostettler to end the inning.

Both pitching staffs would settle in for the next seven innings as neither team would be able to scratch across a run.

Lipscomb threatened in the top of the ninth as the Bisons would have runners on first and third with one out after back-to-back singles by Wilson and Hostettler, but Reeder got the next two batters to strike out swinging to end the contest.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. as they face the Bisons in game two of the series. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
