Trent powers Bucs to 6-3 win over USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 12, 2011) -  A two-home run day for senior catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) powered the ETSU baseball team to a 6-3 win over USC Upstate in a non-conference game Tuesday night at Harley Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
With the win, the Bucs (21-9, 11-5 A-Sun) have now won five straight dating back to the 9-4 win over Appalachian State last Wednesday. Trent went 3-for-5 in the contest with five RBI and scored two runs as ETSU outhit the Spartans (12-23, 6-10 A-Sun) 10-7.
 
Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale. Fla.) and Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) also had multiple hits in the game as Doane was 3-for-5 with a double, while Hoilman went 2-for-4 with a walk and scored a run.
 
Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) set the ETSU single season saves record picking up his 12th save in as many opportunities after retiring three of the four batters he faced in the ninth.
 
Dak Rissman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) improved to 4-0 on the year after throwing 3.0 strong innings of relief allowing only one run (none earned) on two hits with one strikeout, while sophomore Scott McNally (Marietta, Ga.) looked good in a no decision limiting the Spartans to two runs (one earned) in 5.0 innings and struck out three with three walks.
 
Andrew Wyant was tabbed with the loss for USC Upstate as the righty surrendered five runs (four earned) in 6.0 innings of relief.
 
Trent gave the Bucs a 3-0 lead in the top of the third as he snuck a three-run homer inside the foul pole down the right field line.
 
The Spartans cut the ETSU lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Blake Green scored on a throwing error by second baseman Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) before Trey Richardson drove in a run on a ball hit to first.
 
Tyler Miller evened the game at 3-all in the bottom of the sixth as he drove in Anthony Vacca on a ball hit to second.
 
In the top of the seventh, Trent crushed a 2-1 pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homer to regain the lead, 5-3.
 
The Bucs plated an insurance run in the top of the ninth on a Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) sac fly to center to make the score 6-3 ETSU.
