JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 8, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team defeated Furman 4-2 Tuesday night at Cardinal Park as the Bucs improved to 7-2 on the season.

Sophomore Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) earned his first win of the season with his second straight quality start. Bushey limited the Paladins (6-7) to one run scattering five hits while striking out six.

Junior Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) and left fielder John Long (Anderson, S.C.) led the way offensively for ETSU. Reeder was 2-for-4 with a double, and scored two runs, while Long was 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run.

Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) put the Bucs in front 1-0 in the bottom of the first as he drove in Reeder from second on a single down the first base line. In the next at bat, Long gave ETSU a 2-0 edge as he singled up the middle scoring designated hitter Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.).

The Paladins cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the third after triple by Rob Fondu and a sacrifice fly to center by Will Owens.

In the top of the fourth, Reeder and first baseman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) came up with back-to-back doubles to give the Buccaneers a 3-1 lead. Hoilman's double was his 64th of his career as he surpassed Caleb Moore for the ETSU career doubles record.

The Bucs added another run in the fifth inning as second baseman Alex Reynolds (Johnson City, Tenn.) singled to left center scoring Long from second to put ETSU in front 4-1.

Furman got a run back in the seventh though as Hunter Burton doubled in Alex Abrams to cut the Buccaneer lead to 4-2.

The ETSU bullpen would hold on though as Reeder picked up his fourth save of the season after striking out the side in the ninth to close out the game.

The Bucs head to Jacksonville, Fla. this weekend for a conference series with North Florida. For more information on ETSU baseball and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
