ETSU baseball helps create awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2010) - Aside from their studies, strength and conditioning program, and individual skill work, the 2010-11 ETSU Buccaneer Baseball team has been very busy this fall. In addition to all those tasks, the Bucs have also played an integral role within the local community.

"Our guys have been very busy this semester and community service played an important role in what we are doing," said head coach Tony Skole. "From reading at local elementary schools, to helping with various food drives, to ringing bells for the Salvation Army, our players have been very involved this fall. Our guys have always done an outstanding job representing the program and it's nice to see them interacting within the community."

The ETSU baseball team recently showed its support and solidarity by raising funds and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.  The Bucs' head Athletic Trainer Brian Johnston challenged the baseball team to participate in "Movember," which is an event to help raise awareness for prostate cancer. The players were challenged to change their appearance and the face of men's health by growing a moustache. The moustache is similar to a ribbon - the tool used to raise awareness and funds for cancer that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, their commitment was to grow a moustache for the last 30 days.

"Our guys had a lot of fun with "Movember", but I have to admit it's not a very flattering look for many of them," added Skole, who he and his staff also participated in the event. They definitely raised awareness and it was fun to see them participate for such a worthy cause. I'm sure this will be a tradition which we will participate in for many years to come."
