Trent named Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 20, 2010) - Junior catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named a Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist announced The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Wednesday.

Trent joins 15 other catchers nationally as semifinalists for the prestigious award. The Johnny Bench Award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher based on athletic ability, sportsmanship, team leadership and character.

The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission will name the finalists for the award on June 2, prior to the NCAA Regionals and Major League Baseball Draft.

On the season, Trent is hitting a career-best .372 with 16 doubles, 13 home runs while driving in 62 runs. The local native leads the Atlantic Sun having thrown out 22 base runners on the season.
