DELAND, Fla. (May 10, 2009) - The middle of the Stetson lineup pounded the ETSU baseball team for eight RBI as the Bucs dropped the final game of the series at Melching Field in DeLand, Fla., 11-6.


The loss is the sixth straight for the Bucs as they fall to 23-25 on the year and 9-18 in the A-Sun, while Stetson goes to 26-26, and 15-12 in conference.


ETSU starter Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) was tabbed with the loss as he went 3.0 innings surrendering five runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout. Lindsey Caughel earned his fourth win of the year throwing 5.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits with a strikeout.


The ETSU offense was led by Hoilman and left fielder Troy Mendez (Roswell, Ga.) as they both went 3-for-4. Hoilman had two home runs in the game and four RBI.


Hoilman gave the Bucs an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as he sent his 13th home run of the season over the fence in left center for a two-run home run.


The Hatters tied the game at 2-all in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by centerfielder Casey Frawley. Later in the inning, Stetson took a 5-2 lead on a three-run home run by Aaron Crittenden.


Stetson added another run in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double by short stop Jacob deGrom to take a 6-2 lead.


In the bottom of the fifth, right fielder Jeremy Cruz increased the Hatters lead to 7-2 on a RBI single to right.


The Bucs answered in the top of the sixth as right fielder Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) singled in Mendez to cut the lead to 7-3. ETSU scored another run in the inning as Hoilman came in to score on a grounder to short to make the score 7-4.


Stetson first baseman Kyle Maulbetsch homered in the bottom of the sixth to extend Hatters lead to 8-4.


Senior Darren Caldwell (Spartanburg, S.C.) broke the school record for career pitching appearances as he came into the came for the Bucs in the sixth for the 97th time in his four-year career.


The Hatters added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI single by catcher Nick Rickles to put Stetson in front 9-4.


ETSU narrowed the gap in the top of the eighth on Hoilman's second home run of the day as he crushed a two-run home run over the fence in left to make the score 9-6.


The Hatters scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI triple by Frawley and a RBI single by Cruz to take an 11-6 lead.
