(Nov. 26, 2007) - ETSU head baseball coach Tony Skole announced Monday that the Buccaneers have received a two more signees for the 2008-09 season.

The Bucs added two more prospects from Tennessee with the signings of Taylor Gouffon (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Skyler Barnett (Erwin, Tenn.). Gouffon, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound, righty is rated the #10 recruit in Tennessee, and was the Most Valuable Pitcher in 2007 World Wood Bat Championship. Gouffon had 39 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched as a junior for Coach Matt Buckner at Bearden High School. Gouffon had great numbers this past summer for Knoxville Yard as he had a 0.83 era in 42 innings pitched only walking seven batters.

"Taylor is one of the top pitchers in the state of Tennessee," Skole said. "He has as much upside of any pitcher we have ever recruited.  He has a big-league type frame and he is still growing.  Taylor has great command of the strike zone from a three quarters arm slot.  He throws all his pitches for strikes and has good deception on the mound.  The sky is the limit for Taylor as we expect him to have a very successful career at ETSU.  He is a winner and simply takes care of business. Taylor is going to make a huge impact on our program and on our campus. He is a phenomenal student who has a very bright future."

Barnett, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound, catcher had a great junior season hitting .360 with six homeruns, nine doubles, and 33 RBIs. Barnett was named to the Johnson City Press Super 22, and was selected to the East Region TBCA Worth All-Star Team. Barnett is coached by Charlie Baxter at Unicoi County HS.

"We are excited to add another quality, local athlete to our program," Skole said. "Skyler is the top defensive catcher in East Tennessee and has the exact makeup we are looking for in a ball player.  He is a tireless worker and loves to play the game.  Skyler has continued to improve his game and is a good defensive catcher who has the ability to shut down the running game. We like his ability to receive, block and throw and we feel he was as good of a catch-and-throw guy as we saw in our recruiting efforts across the country.  Skyler is a great kid who will be a great addition to our campus community."
