AUBURN, Ala. (Feb. 24, 2008) - Auburn's Luke Greinke would put the Tigers ahead with a three run homer in the fourth as the Bucs could not regain the lead falling, 12-4, to Auburn on Sunday at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala.

 

ETSU (0-3, 0-0) came out on fire with six hits and four runs in the first three innings, but those runs did not prove to be enough as the Bucs were outhit by the Tigers 14-8. Auburn (3-0, 0-0) pitched six scoreless innings shutting down the Bucs bats after the hot start by ETSU. Junior Ty Sarchet (Honolulu, Hawaii) would get the loss as he gave up seven runs on five hits in three innings of work.

 

Game four of the series is set for 4 p.m. tomorrow from Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala. Live stats will be available on the Auburn website.

 

The Bucs got the board early on a towering two-run shot by senior Anthony Russell (Waldorf, Md.) over the green monster in left field after a Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) single in the first inning. Junior Chris Rankhorn (Gallatin, Tenn.) added another run when he doubled in Nick Belcher (Abingdon, Va.) from first base to make the score 3-0 in the first inning.

 

Auburn would tie things up in the bottom of the first on a Greinke RBI single and a two run blast by Mike Greinke to right center.

 

In the third inning the Bucs would score again on a Belcher RBI single driving in Russell to regain the lead, 4-3. The Tigers would tie things up again in the bottom of the third on a Joseph Sanders sac fly to center.

 

The Tigers would jump out in front on a three run home run by Greinke to left center field knocking Sarchet out of the game. Auburn would extend its lead to 9-4 in the fifth on an RBI double by Justin Hargett and an RBI single by Brian Fletcher.

 

In the seventh the Tigers would score again on an RBI single by Greinke to make the score 10-4. Auburn would score two more runs in the eighth on a two run blast by Kevin Patterson.
