Campbell sweeps ETSU Baseball, 11-1

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (March 10, 2008) - The ETSU baseball team jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but would relinquish ten unanswered runs as the Bucs would be swept by Campbell at Taylor Field in Buies Creek, N.C. on Monday afternoon, 11-1.

 

ETSU (1-11, 1-5) would get another good start on the weekend as freshman Josh Means (Kennesaw, Ga.) went five innings giving up four runs on five hits with only two of those runs being earned.  Means pitched three perfect innings for the Bucs, but the Camels would score eight runs in the middle innings. Campbell (6-5, 4-2) out hit the Bucs 11-7 and safely stole seven bases in the game.

 

The Bucs would take an early 1-0 lead as freshman Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) would score on a passed ball in the top of the second inning. Campbell would score two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single to right by Mike Causey to make the score 2-1.

 

In the fifth inning, with two outs  and runners on first and third Anthony Russell (Waldorf, Md.) would hit a screamer back up the middle as the pitcher Dan Gardo would rob Russell making an outstanding stab on the mound to get the out.

 

Campbell scored again in the fifth on RBI singles by Ellis Lowe and Brandon Scott to increase the Camel lead to 4-1. The Camels would extend their lead to seven runs in the bottom of the sixth as Campbell would score five runs in the inning to make the score 9-1.

 

In the seventh, Ryan Hamme singled up the middle driving in another run to make score 10-1. Campbell would score another run in the bottom of the eight to make the final 11-1.
