ETSU wins postponed game with ASU, 18-7

BOONE, N.C. (April 23, 2005) -- The East Tennessee State baseball team picked up where it left off on Friday, scoring six more runs in the final two innings of a postponed game to drop Appalachian State 18-7 Saturday in game one of the Buccaneers' weekend Southern Conference series.


With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 22-11 overall, 10-9 in SoCon play, while the Mountaineers dropped to 9-30, 5-14.


Junior first baseman Blake Church (Roswell, Ga.) led the Bucs offensively, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while right fielder Shane Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) homered twice - once from each side of the plate - going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Junior right-hander Jeremy Hall (Gray, Tenn.) improved to 8-1 on the season, going seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out nine ASU batters.
