Buccaneer Baseball players honored in national publications
Junior Shane Byrne was named as a "player to watch" in the SoCon Friday, February 04, 2005 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 4, 2005) - Several East Tennessee State baseball players were honored in the 2005 college preview issues of Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball, on newsstands now. Senior catcher Caleb Moore ( Baseball America also listed senior infielder Nick Crowe ( Crowe transferred to ETSU after three seasons at the Church was ETSU's best run producer in 2004, batting .353 with eight home runs and a team-high 53 RBIs. He also led the team with a .989 fielding percentage, committing just five errors in 442 chances. Moore was named as a first-team preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball while Crowe, Church and junior outfielder Shane Byrne (Johnson City, Tenn.) were listed as "top players to watch" in the SoCon in 2005. Byrne has a great all-around season in 2004, hitting .330 with six home runs and 39 RBIs. He also stole 13 bases, scored 51 runs and possesses one of the strongest outfield arms in the conference. "Our players are very well deserving of these preseason honors," said Buccaneer head coach Tony Skole. "It is a great testament to their hard work and dedication to be the best they can possibly be.
