East Tennessee State Baseball Set To Open Home Season

(Feb. 21, 2002) - East Tennessee State's baseball team is set to open the home portion of its 2002 schedule this weekend when the Bucs will host North Carolina A&T in a three-game series. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ETSU returns 16 letterwinners from last season's team that finished 23-32 for head coach Tony Skole. Included in the group are six position starters and nine pitchers. The Bucs have already opened the season, dropping a three-game set at fifth-ranked South Carolina last weekend. North Carolina A&T will enter this weekend's series with a 5-11 record. The Buccaneers will play their first two home series (North Carolina A&T, Feb. 23-24; Indiana, March 1-3) of the season in Kingsport, Tenn. at Hunter Wright Stadium. To get to the stadium take I-181 north towards Kingsport and turn off at exit 55 (Stone Drive). Turn left and go about two miles to Granby Road and turn right. After about 1 ½ miles the stadium will be on the left. The remaining portion of the home schedule for ETSU will be played at Howard Johnson Field (Cardinal Park) in Johnson City.
