Kingsport, Tenn. (February 24, 2002) - East Tennessee State's baseball (3-3) took the third game of their series against the North Carolina A & T Aggies (5-14) in 11 innings 5-4 on Sunday afternoon in Kingsport, Tenn. at Hunter Wright Stadium. In the first inning, the Bucs got on the board first with a RBI-single from Bryan Crouse (Kingston, Tenn.) which scored Matt Traylor (Knoxville, Tenn.). In the second, Jeffrey King would double to center field, steal third base and score the Aggies' first run off an error by the pitcher. The game is tied going into the fourth inning. North Carolina A &T breaks that tie when Carlos Geathers hits a triple to center field and brings in King to make the score 3-2. ETSU would get a couple of more runs in the sixth with a single from Ryan Hyder (Erwin, Tenn.) and Hyder scored on a wild pitch. The Bucs had the 4-3 lead heading into the ninth inning but an ETSU fielding error let Geathers score the tying run. In the bottom of the ninth, ETSU would get one hit from Chad Boruff(Knoxville, Tenn.) but would not be able to bring home John Gorton (Hinsdale, N. H.), who pinch ran for Boruff. This sent the game into extra innings. Neither team could do much in the 10th inning. In the 11th, the Aggies could not get a hit off relief pitcher Donnie Sharp (Oak Ridge, Tenn.). Traylor started the inning with a single up the middle and then stole second. Traylor then scored the winning run when Crouse grounded out at first base.
