Giroud Named Freshman All-American

Johnson City, Tenn. (June 7, 2002) - Michael Giroud (St. Petersburg, Fla.) of East Tennessee State's baseball team was named an honorable mention freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball the publication has announced. Giroud broke into the Bucs starting lineup at third base at the beginning of the season and appeared in 48 of ETSU's 57 games this season. He wound up finishing fourth on the team with his .318 batting average, driving in 39 runs and scoring 24 times. He belted a pair of home runs in his first season with the Bucs and was the only regular player on the team to walk (17) more times than he struck out (16). He was third on the team in on-base percentage with a mark of .397.
