JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 13, 2011) - The 2011 ETSU baseball team returned to campus Thursday for the first day of spring semester classes. The Buccaneers will hold individual workouts over the next two weeks as ETSU will conduct its first full-squad practice session on Friday, January 28.
The Bucs open the 2011 season on February 18, as the Marist Red Foxes come to town for a three-game series at Cardinal Park.
ETSU welcomes back 16 players to a team that made a run deep into the Atlantic Sun Tournament in 2010 and posted 32 wins for the first time since 1982. Senior All-America first baseman Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) leads a core of veterans that includes junior third baseman Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.), senior catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.), and junior outfielder Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.).
Seniors Bo Burton (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Ben Booker (Knoxville, Tenn.) lead the way for the Bucs on the mound.
The Buccaneers will also be complemented by a group of 13 newcomers including junior right-handed pitchers John Long (Anderson, S.C.) and Dak Rissman (West Palm Beach, Fla.), junior outfielder Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) and freshman left-handed pitcher/outfielder Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.).
