JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 13, 2005) - East Tennessee State won game one of a Southern Conference baseball doubleheader against Davidson, 8-3, before falling in game two, 10-9, Friday afternoon from Cardinal Park in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Bucs (28-19, 13-16 SoCon) took the lead in game one with a solo home run by junior first baseman Blake Church (Roswell, Ga.) in the bottom of the second.
Davidson (25-21, 13-14 SoCon) responded immediately, tying the game with a run in the top of the third. With one out, Michael Muniz singled to right and scored on a subsequent double by Andrew Musashe.
The Bucs scored two runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by freshman third baseman Anthony Russell (
With ETSU leading 5-1, the Wildcats rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Buccaneer advantage to two runs. Sam Navarro was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Muniz followed with a two-run homer over the centerfield wall.
But that was as close as the Wildcats would get, as ETSU scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to ice the game. Sophomore catcher John Weddle (

Rob Wilson was charged with the loss (5-5) for Davidson, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits over the first 5.1 innings.
Hargis went 3-for-5 to lead the Bucs while Russell scored two runs and drove in two. Three Wildcats had two hits and Muniz drove in two and scored twice.

But the Bucs rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three runs in the sixth.
The game got interesting as the Bucs scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to trim Davidson's lead to 9-8. Church walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sac bunt by senior left fielder Ryan Spriggs (
Davidson regained the lead in the top of the ninth and scored the decisive run as Entrekin belted a solo homer with one out.
Heafner earned the win (1-2), pitching the final two innings and allowing one run on three hits while striking out three.
Hargis led the Bucs again in game two, going 3-for-6 with two runs scored while Church was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Heafner went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Entrekin was 2-for-5 three runs scored and two RBIs in the victory.
