(May 3, 2004) - After batting .579 last week and leading the Bucs to a 4-0 record against Virginia Tech and The Citadel, East Tennessee State junior catcher Caleb Moore (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named Southern Conference Player of the Week. Moore is undoubtedly one of the hottest hitters in the nation right now, currently in the middle of a 10-game hitting streak while recording multiple hits in nine-straight games. Over those nine games, Moore is batting an incredible .628 with 27 hits in 43 at bats. Caleb had 11 hits in 19 at-bats this week with two home runs, nine RBIs, four doubles, one triple and nine runs scored. His on base percentage was .636 while his slugging percentage was an astronomical 1.211. Moore also picked up a win on the mound against the Bulldogs, pitching four scoreless innings on Saturday. Moore went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs against Virginia Tech on Tuesday, 2-for-4 with two runs scored, 4-for-6 with four runs scored and two RBIs and 3-for-5 with one run scored and three RBIs in successive games against The Citadel. On the season, Moore leads the Southern Conference with a .475 batting average and has seven homers and 35 RBIs. He also has hit 23 doubles, scored 45 runs, has a .766 slugging percentage and a .528 on-base percentage. Moore came into the week fourth in the nation in batting average and sixth in doubles. The Bucs return to action Wednesday night at 7 p.m. EST against Tennessee Tech from Cookeville, Tenn. ETSU's next home game will take place on May 18 at 7 p.m., also against Tennessee Tech.
