(June 5, 2003) - East Tennessee State junior pitcher/center fielder Tim Turner (Marietta, Ga.) was selected by the Seattle Mariners Wednesday in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Turner, the Mariners 50th round selection, finished third on the Bucs with a .301 batting average in 2003. He hit three home runs, had 13 RBI and scored 23 runs last season. He was 15-of-18 in stolen base attempts on the year, breaking the ETSU record for career stolen bases with 42. He is a .284 batter in his three years in a Buccaneer uniform, adding six home runs, 50 RBI and 71 runs scored. On the mound, Turner was 2-7 last season and finished second on the club with a 5.44 ERA. He led the team in innings pitched (89.1) and strikeouts (97), finishing second in the Southern Conference in that category. For his career, Turner is 6-15 with a 6.12 ERA and 186 strikeouts in 182.2 innings pitched.
