Asheville, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior Todd Interdonato hit and pitched the UNCA Bulldogs to a 9-3 non-conference win over ETSU on March 22.
UNCA (9-10) won for the fifth time in six games, while the Buccaneers (6-12) had a three-game winning streak snapped.
Interdonato pitched 6.2 innings before leaving with one out in the seventh inning. He allowed just six hits, struck out three and walked four. He raised his record to 2-0. Interdonatao went 2-for-5 at the plate and connected on his third homer of the season.
The Bulldogs also got solo homers from Jason Ronai and Curtis Moncus. It was both players' first homers of the season. Ronai finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI's and two stolen bases. Senior second baseman Willie Stewart also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI's.
UNCA scored at least one run in every inning but the seventh. The Bulldogs got solo runs in the first three innings and then exploded for three more in the fourth to 6-0. They picked up solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings to lead 8-0.
ETSU rallied for three tuns in the seventh to get on the board. Nathan Copeland hit a two-ru home to make it 8-2, followed by a run-scoring double from Chad Boruff.
Stewart closed out the scoring with an RBI-double to make it 9-3 in the bottom of the eigth.
The same two teams will play Thursday afternoon at Cardinal Park in Johnson City.
